Candlemas

On Sunday February 2nd, we celebrate Candlemas, the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Presentation of our Lord in the Temple. The Cathedral of the Holy Cross will celebrate the traditional solemn procession and blessing of candles at the 11:30 a.m. Sunday Mass.
This is the most solemn blessing of candles offered during the year. Traditionally, Catholics bring candles to church on Candlemas for the solemn blessing and keep them at home throughout the year. In times of peril, during storms, or for other great need, Catholics light their blessed candle at home and pray around it.
Parishioners and guests may bring candles with them to be blessed. Additionally, beeswax tapers will be distributed at the door before Mass, which will be blessed during Mass, and which parishioners and guests may take home with them.
