Protecting God’s Children

Out of concern for our most vulnerable populations including children, young people, the elderly and the disabled, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross actively engages the Archdiocese of Boston’s Policies and Procedures for the Protection of Children.  These policies and procedures are designed to assure that:

No person may minister, work, or serve in positions that place them in contact with children prior to completing the mandated Protecting God’s Children for Adults Program commonly referred to as Child Abuse Prevention Training (CAP).
No person may minister, work, or serve in a capacity involving contact with children under age eighteen (18) without having submitted Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). The Cathedral also requires a CORI check for positions that do not serve children directly, but which potentially include unmonitored access to children, as well as positions that include work with the elderly and the disabled. The Criminal Offender Record Information for these persons is renewed annually.

Ultimately, the Rector ensures that the appropriate persons complete their mandated CORI and CAP requirements.  CAP Team Facilitators are nominated by the Rector and receive the required training through the Office of Child Advocacy of the Archdiocese of Boston. Presently, Bob Travers and Carol Gaudreau serve as the current CAP Team Facilitators at the Cathedral.

All clergy, staff, and volunteers also complete a Virtus Protecting God’s Children training session. This Archdiocesan sponsored program teaches participants awareness of those persons and situations which could endanger our children. The state also requires volunteers to submit a yearly CORI form.

All clergy, office staff, and every volunteer is required to attend a Virtus—Protecting God’s Children training session, an Archdiocese sponsored program which teaches an awareness of those persons and situations which could endanger our children. The state also requires volunteers to submit a yearly CORI form.
